Gold goblet

Gold goblet with a cameo of Frederik VII in profile surrounded by diamonds and with his mirrored monogram, also in diamonds.

The lid has an enamelled royal crown studded with diamonds and rubies made by the royal court jeweller A. Michelsen.

The goblet was a gift from Frederik VII to Countess Danner for their wedding on August 7th 1850, and is a copy of the Holstein goblet at Rosenborg Castle, which Frederik IV (1671-1730) gave to the owner of Clausholm Manor, the chancellor Count A.U. Holstein (1666-1757) after he helped the king kidnap Holstein’s sister-in-law Anna Sophie Reventlow (1693-1743) from the manor in Jutland.
